How To Make A Homemade Granola

Homemade granola is a versatile and delicious snack or breakfast option. Here’s a simple recipe along with step-by-step instructions:

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups rolled oats (old-fashioned oats)
  • 1 cup nuts (almonds, pecans, walnuts, or a mix), chopped
  • 1/2 cup seeds (pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds)
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened shredded coconut
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup melted coconut oil or olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup dried fruit (raisins, cranberries, chopped apricots) (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the rolled oats, chopped nuts, seeds, shredded coconut, and optional ground cinnamon. Stir until evenly mixed.
  3. Add Wet Ingredients:
    • In a separate small bowl, whisk together the honey or maple syrup, melted coconut oil or olive oil, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
  4. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:
    • Pour the wet ingredients over the dry ingredients in the large mixing bowl. Use a spatula or wooden spoon to mix until everything is evenly coated.
  5. Spread on Baking Sheet:
    • Spread the granola mixture evenly onto the prepared baking sheet. Use the back of a spoon or spatula to press it down slightly.
  6. Bake:
    • Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, stirring halfway through, or until the granola is golden brown and fragrant.
  7. Cool:
    • Once baked, remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the granola cool completely on the baking sheet. It will continue to crisp up as it cools.
  8. Add Dried Fruit (Optional):
    • Once the granola is cooled, you can stir in the optional dried fruit, such as raisins, cranberries, or chopped apricots.
  9. Store:
    • Transfer the cooled granola to an airtight container or jar for storage. It can be stored at room temperature for up to 2 weeks, or longer if kept in the refrigerator or freezer.
  10. Enjoy:
    • Serve your homemade granola with yogurt, milk, or as a topping for smoothie bowls, oatmeal, or fruit salads. Enjoy it as a nutritious snack or breakfast option!
